Rockstar Games is still hard at work trying to achieve its new date of November 19, 2026, the release date of GTA 6after many delays followed its first announcement in 2022, and doubts about the current slate abound.
How do we know? Well, we asked our readers via our TechRadar WhatsApp channel (available for the latest news and updates) whether the long-awaited title will be worth the wait. This comes after two separate delays, the latest pushing the launch date down to 2026 (it was originally planned for May 26, 2026), and rumors that there could be further delays.
The overwhelming majority of votes (overwhelmingly 59%) said ‘ask me in 2027’, suggesting many believe another delay is likely. This is not far away either, as recent reports say that Rockstar Games is planning to delay the portable version of GTA 6 stop the robbers before all the players get their hands.
While that’s not a direct delay for the game itself, most consumers aim to have physical copies of games, and this measure could leave many without physical copies as players will want to play on day one.
Besides, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently reported that the last we heard about the highly anticipated game was that it was incomplete. It should be noted that this is considered normal for Rockstar Games, which explains why the final product is often well polished, but it may not be enough to shake the fans’ worries about another delay.
While 22% of voters believe that GTA 6 will be worth the long wait, a fair number also believe that it won’t – and based on 59% of voters who are concerned about the delay, it’s enough to say that Rockstar’s highly anticipated game may not live up to the hype.
Opinion: some GTA 6 lag could be a problem
There is no doubt in my mind that Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 it would be an absolute blockbuster, selling millions of copies on its launch day. However, if there is indeed a delay (especially a long one), many question whether the game really has to offer and was worth waiting for so long.
In other words, if this game continues to be delayed for a long time, there is a risk that Rockstar Games may miss the right moment to capture and exploit the hype, however good it may be. GTA 6 is something.
That’s pure speculation on my part: frankly, the game hasn’t started its full marketing campaign yet, and my tone might change a lot when that time comes. All Rockstar Games needed to quell the anxiety and frustration after the initial delay was a 2nd trailer and a bunch of in-game screenshots to get the hype train rolling again.
I really hope that the November 19, 2026 slate is final, and I’m sure everyone will be praying for a smooth sailing development for the developers at Rockstar Games, so that we can all enjoy what has been waiting for 13 years.
