Here they come: The 8 Designer It Bags of 2026

It may only be January, but the spring/summer 2026 collections are already hitting the stores, and that can only mean one thing: The most viral-It bags are starting to appear, and my fashion editor nerves are tingling. We first got a look at these new silhouettes on the runways last fall, but now that top brands are bringing them into the wild, it’s becoming clearer and clearer which designer bags are destined to be big. They may be new to the market, but I can pretty much guarantee that these eight styles will continue to define the rest of the year. It’s a tall order, but based on the initial feedback I’ve seen from celebrities, insiders, and retail professionals, these are full of power for the It thing.
“From the S/S 26 collections, there are two clear directions for bags,” said Barbara Janeczek, health care manager at global fashion shopping center Lest. “On the other hand, we’re seeing functional silhouettes gaining momentum, like Bottega’s Ciao Ciao bag,” and, I might add, the even newer Barbara Tote. On the other hand, consumers are gravitating towards bags with a vintage feel, including reissued styles like the Mombasa. Bowling bags are also up 51% on the month, with Balenciaga’s Bolero Bowling Bag seeing a +66% increase since the end of December. Similarly, The Row’s Peggy Clutch is also up 67% in January.”
Whether it’s the re-release of the Saint Laurent Mombasa or the new Chanel Flap Bag we’ve already approved—a list that marks the Matthieu Blazy era of Chanel, this year’s list of the most sought-after bags is already shining. Ahead, find and shop the eight It bags that will change style this year—and they’re already here.
Chanel Mini Flap Bag
“The Chanel Small Flap Bag will absolutely lead as the most popular and requested bag for S/S 26,” said top fashion source Gab Waller. “I see that a lot in all colors, but I can confirm that black and white are the two most requested colors right now.” When the fund started gaining traction on social media, inspired by It girls and Chanel ambassadors like Dua Lipa and Jennie, Waller says she started getting nonstop—and now daily—requests for help. Everyone, it seems, wants a piece of the new Chanel.

When Gucci held its Milan press days for the spring/summer collection—and the debut of designer Demna—editors were surprised by one thing in particular: a new take on the beloved Jackie shoulder bag. For spring, it comes with a slimmer, oblong east-west shape and a soft, comfortable, and stay-in look that combines the bag’s heritage and undeniable wearability that will make it an instant fan favorite.

“I’m seeing strong traction for all things Celine, and their Triomphe Frame Bag will be highly coveted this year,” Waller said. As the *best* source for the A-list crowd, Waller knows which pieces will influence style before everyone else does, so when she endorses something, we pay close attention. And right now, Celine is ready to take over as much needed thanks to new bag styles, such as the Triomphe Frame, which marks a new chapter for the French label under the leadership of Michael Rider. “I expect Celine to take over as one of my most requested brands this year.”

Dior Bow bag
Jonathan Anderson’s appointment at Dior was easily one of the most anticipated and hyped of the 14 or 15 creative director appointments this past season, making the Dior spring collection one we’ve been waiting for. With its pillow shape and clutch handle, the Bow Bag is already one of the most notable items.
Row Peggy Clutch
As rumors of The Row discontinuing its iconic Margaux Bag become reality, insiders are abuzz with predictions about which style will replace it. Is it equally as realistic as the Marlo Tote? A polished Indian bag? And, as it turns out, now that Peggy Clutch has taken root. Visible only in its silhouette, the logo-less clutch (with a hidden shoulder strap) is quickly becoming the new mediator of a quiet luxury look, and with at least one color on sale, it is on its way to quickly achieving Margaux-level fame.

After popular styles like the Andiamo and Ciao Ciao comes the latest innovation to feature the signature Intrecciato weave, the Barbara Tote—another beautiful, well-crafted saddle bag from Bottega Veneta. And like several others on this list, it carries the cultural weight of being the first design of a new era for its house, this one under the creative direction of Louise Trotter.

He’s back! As one of the most popular fashion items of the early aughts, the Mombasa bag it was not just a popular carryall; it could be argued i a designer bag to own, and since Saint Laurent recently launched its reissue with It girls all over the world including Bella Hadid carrying one, there is no doubt that 2026 will be shaped by the first 2002.
